Hot day! But the SOJ Market was still packed. We picked up leeks, garlic, blackberries, cherries, onion, red and yellow tomatoes, carrots, purple and yellow wax beans, fresh whole chicken, ground pork, fresh pasta, a BLT and Carnitas for breakfast, and iced coffee.
The colors of the market are spectacular this time of year.
Come on out next week and join in the fun.
If you have photos of any of the local markets, post them here.

Daylight Donuts
Richmond BizSense posted a piece on Daylight Donuts a little over a week ago. This is a new doughnut franchise that just opened on Broad between Gaskins and Cox. Part of their mission is to train and employ persons with disabilities.
Last week I picked up some goodies on the way to work. They were delightful.
I was particularly partial to the cinnamon roll.

North of the James Market
This week I finally visited the North of the James Market in Bryan Park. Hats off to everyone who braved the heat. At least Bryan Park offers some shade. While the market is small, the offerings are delightful.

Drinks and Apps at Acacia
Before going to the movie at the Byrd we hit up Acacia for some cocktails and appetizers. Since we are eating early and are favorite spot is the bar, no reservations are necessary.
Acacia always has something new on their cocktail list and it takes us several minutes to decide. For this night I tried the Brazilian Sunrise which consisted of Cachaca 51, Campari, Tangerine, Housemade Grenadine.
Hubby had Fizz No.1 which had Hendrick's Gin, Pimm's No.1, Cucumber Juice, Lime, Simple Syrup, Housemade Ginger Beer.
Both were wonderfully refreshing and not very sweet. Perfect for a sweltering day. And, of course, crafted with the utmost care and precision.
To eat we enjoyed Smoked Tuna with White Beans and Arugula (I was very pleased that the beans were not crunchy!)
Tuna Ceviche with Cucumber
Peach and Proscuitto Salad with Poppy Seed Dressing (great combination of ingredients)
Smoked Mozzarella and Heirloom Tomatoes
Lovely.

I swear, the SOJ Market keeps getting better. I don't know why all of Richmond doesn't come out and enjoy the food happening.

Saint Stephen's Farmers Market
While the Saint Stephen's Farmers Market is not as big as the South of the James Market, they do carry quality items and are located near Libbie and Grove on Saturday mornings.
Check out a few photos
The tomatillos were freakin' awesome!
No matter where you are, support your local market and local farmers.
