Kitchen Renovation Saga Part 12

Wow. It's been over a year since we installed our cabinets. We finally installed counter tops! A hard decision, counter tops. I did not want granite or laminate or concrete. Corian and Silestone did not win me over either. And then we discovered Ecologic. We chose Virginia-quarried soapstone. I love the dark, dark chalkboard gray with white veins and matte-gold splotches throughout. Once the counter tops were installed, we put in our new sink - hammered copper and faucet - oil-rubbed bronze.

Still a lot to do - backsplash, ceiling, one more wall, lighting, etc., etc. Yeah, I could go on and on. But I'm glad we have real counter tops instead of plywood.

We like soapstone too! We plan to put it in our bathroom and kitchen, as we renovate. Ecologic has really nice products and helpful staff; we've learned a lot from them!

Thanks for sharing this. We have been spending a lot of time in Ecologic lately, looking at things for a log cabin renovation (http://condemnationplantation.blogspot.com/). We have pretty much decided on the soapstone for our downstairs bathroom, and we will probably be putting it in the kitchen as well. I also like the other things you've done with the kitchen -- food for thought, so to speak.

Very pretty. Not familiar with soapstone , how does it "wear". I know you had to cure it,but will you have to do it again over time ? Still love the cabinets. Will be sure and have Ma see the pics.Luv ya Bev

Wow, what a fantastic kitchen! Thanks for stopping by Who's Afraid of Virginia, and for your tip about Belmont Butchery. We love that place, and need to go there more frequently. Be well!

Soapstone is actually pretty easy to work with and relatively low maintenance. It can be cut with diamond blades you can buy at most home centers. It gives really dynamic results for a kitchen...
