Vino Market - New Wine Shop

Vino Market opened up a couple of months ago off of Robious Road near the 288 interchange. They have a great selection and offer free tastings every Friday. Hunter and Dave are very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. They also carry a good selection of cheeses and meats. Sign up for their email list at the web site.

I know this is a welcome addition to the area. Check them out!

Summer is upn us in Richmond. I ate at Millies last week, ordered the duck and a glass of Bordeaux. The wine was served too hot, cooked, no fruit left, ruined from improper storage. Same thing happened at Cafe Guttenburg, also at Six Burner (which I love the food thee, but the wine list is pretty meh). What is the best way to bring this to a restaurants attention without being insulting? How can Richmond restaurants in general deal with this problem. Can't they invest in some wine fridges or at least keep the wine in the walk in? Or leave the AC on at night when everyone is gone for the day? Is that wine display at Acaccia kept cool? I don't think those Vinotemp things like at Cattura are the answer.

What a horrible experience. For the most part I never order wine by the glass because I never trust how a restaurant stores the opened bottles. Was the wine opened the night before or worse - three nights before? And for me it's not just a summertime problem. Restaurants just do not take the time to consider open bottle storage. My solution is to order by the bottle and I can take home what I do not drink (and store it to my specifications - which is usually a hand pump vacu-vin). Since restaurants make more money from wine by the glass, I think it would be worth the investment of at least a vacu-vin and the training of the staff in its use (and ensuring the staff used the fairly simple gadget).
