Kolache RVA

While Kolache RVA has a storefront in the Church Hill area, they also show some love for Southside by setting up a tent at the South of the James Market.

Apple and Cherry Kolaches

That's where I encountered the apple and cherry varieties. Kolaches are little bread pockets and can feature both savory and sweet offerings. The dough is slightly sweet so I prefer the fruit and cheese varieties, but Kolache RVA also carries pockets featuring Alamo BBQ or the soon-to-be-famous maple cream and sugared bacon,  No matter your preference RVA is definitely filled with delightful yumminess!

Dressed and Pressed Biscuit at South of the James

The South of the James Market may have gone into winter mode, but a fair number of vendors are carrying the torch. The Dressed and Pressed food truck offers biscuits.

Sausage and Egg Biscuit

We tried the sausage and egg version. The biscuit was a little crumbly, but good. I was surprised to see link sausage which was tasty. The best part was the very flavorful egg. A generous size for $4. I also treated myself to an Alchemy mocha. Yummy!

The South of the James Market is in full swing with all manner of veggies, posies, doggies, etc. It's still my favorite market and I'm still a huge fan. I have a few photos to prove it!

Pizza Tonight occasionally hits the South of the James Market. When they do I order a pizza. On this day I had the RVA Pepperoni with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and caprese salami from Olli Salumeria. Yummy, yummy!

South of the James Market - Opening Day

I did make it to opening day at the South of the James Market, but was a bit delayed in posting photos. It was great to see the wide variety of vendors be it veteran suppliers or new ones.

Flickr has a group called Richmond Area Farmers Markets. Please add to the photos of your favorite area market.

In the meantime, enjoy some first day photos!

The Last Regular SOJ Market for 2012

Even though it was the 1st of December plenty of vendors still showed up for the South of the James Market. Produce was plentiful as well as unique and colorful. And two new food trucks appeared: The Dog Wagon and Monique's Crepes. Hubby headed straight for a couple of dogs with the usual fixin's and I tried the Sasquatch savory crepe with acorn squash and sausage, drizzled with maple syrup. Yummy.

Once again my sincere appreciation goes out to all of the vendors. Hubby and I love going to the market every week.

Enjoy the photos. If you have photos of any of the local markets, post them here.

SOJ - October 2012

I missed going to the South of the James Market this past Saturday because I was boxed in by the Richmond Marathon. In October the market had some lovely offerings and featured a new band: Haze and the Transients.

Market Colors: SOJ 7/21 and 7/28

The South of the James Market exploded with color during the last half of July. The produce has been spectacular despite the wretched heat. Check out the photos below and support your local, hard-working, sweaty farmers.
